on obedience and faith!

John 9: 1- 7
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. "Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

i was reading this passage pictorially. meaning i was trying to envision this scene in my head, and me being the blind man.

and i think that the blind man has much greater faith than i do.

imagine that you're blind. woooo everything's dark. and you're unsure of what's happening. suddenly this random group of man started a discussion over you. okay you just continue minding your own business, sitting somewhere.

then suddenly you feel something slimy and gross being smeared onto your face
(i wonder how much spit Jesus had to use to produce a decent amount of mud)
and suddenly you're told to go to the Pool of Siloam, which i would imagine is some ulu farway place.

some circumstances in life are like that, aren't they? you are just going about daily life, when something drops onto you. some bad news, some disaster, some arrows. but we know that God's with us right? yup so then, we get mud paste on our face. and you're given some incredulous instructions as to how to handle this situation
what happens next? what would YOU do next?

i think that i would stagnate. i imagine that if i were the blind man, i would just emo. blind, AND DIRTY. what! why not splash chicken blood on me while you're at it!

what really struck me though, is that the man OBEYED. he obeyed! and that's the significance of the pool of siloam. siloam, which means sent. can you imagine what great testimony this man's life is? i dunno about you, but i being a child of God, one of my most frequent prayers is for my life testimony to be a shining example for people who don't yet know God.

sometimes when you're caught in a pants down situation, understand that you have nothing to lose, cause EVERYTHING comes from above. and this blind man really had nothing to lose. situations that require obedience, when you look past all the circumstances, i think would simply boil down to the bible passage above.

it's simply about obeying God. regardless of how ridiculous you may look.

and when i look at my life, and i reflect on past decisions i have made regarding my spiritual life, i realise that i do indeed stagnate. and people have to push me on sometimes.
but what i find encouraging about this passage is that, even if you're blind to your ways, there are people who would help you along. how else do you think this blind man managed to find his way to the pool? :)
